About
Growing up, I was drawn to the Etruscan art hanging on my grandmother’s wall. After learning more about these ancient artists in college, I traveled to Italy and visited an Etruscan site and museum. While there, I purchased the Etruscan horse I illustrated for my logo.
After a lifelong interest in art, my first job was in an ad agency as a paste up artist. It was there that I discovered the joy of graphic design. At Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach I held a student position in graphic arts and went on to work as an artist at a corporate headquarters in
Alexandria, Virginia.
After taking several years to be home with my children, I enrolled in the Corcoran College of Art and Design in D.C. Upon completion of my studies, I worked for many years as a graphic designer in the marketing department of Sport and Health Clubs Company, the largest health club company in the D.C. area.
When my husband, children and I moved back to my hometown of Virginia Beach, I worked as a graphic designer before deciding to try my hand as a real estate agent. Real estate allowed me to be self employed, work with people, and create graphic design. But eventually I missed doing graphic design full time.
I enrolled at ODU to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design. This enabled me to learn more about typography and different styles of design. By minoring in English, my writing skills improved. I also refined my illustration skills and my knowledge of the history of design and photography.
I am comfortable with both Mac and PC platforms and well versed in Adobe CS5 InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I have also used Dreamweaver and Fireworks in web design along with XHTML and CSS. My print experience includes design of magazines, posters, logos, and more in one to five colors. I have designed larger signage for gallery spaces.
This past spring and summer 2012, I have been designing ads along with editorial design and some writing, for Ozworld Media, a publisher of trade magazines. Moving towards 2013 I am open to new freelance opportunities.
