About
My name is Mike Heighway. I am an multi-disciplinary designer. That means I do motion, graphic (print/digital), environmental and visual design. I am a connoisseur of cappuccinos and cats. Regarding the latter, I am particularly fond of their autonomy and attitude—not so much the hairballs.

I love typography.

I love typography.

I love visual communication.

I solve design problems.

I'm on a quest for the perfect cappuccino (to quote Point Break, "It'll change your life") and occasionally put my feet up to enjoy a good tequila. Good design to me is a study in Japanese architecture. More specifically, Sukiya architecture—the architecture of the tea-house. Sukiya architecture is minimalist and highly organized, with an emphasis on surface. A tremendous amount of effort goes in to reduce the tea-house to its utmost essentials. Highly complex joints that require skill and focus to create, come together into beautifully simple seams, free of distraction and excess. You see nothing to indicate complexity, but underneath the clean surface lies a rigorous thought process. This is what good design is—elegant, simple, free of excess, with an underlying complex system of order, joinery and cohesion. Read Less
