Course: Visual Communication 1

This was an introductory course in visual communication taught by me as a Graduate Teaching Instructor for one section of the sophmore class. This course is designed by Professor Karen Hayes Thumann who taught this same course for second section of the class.

The course focuses on non verbal communication. Students are introduced to design research, theory and methods. This course even explores the importance design plays in shaping meaning and interpretation through basic visual interaction.

  • Project: Word Communication

    Goal: To begin to synthesize form, color and communication.
    The project has 2 parts:

    1) Communicate the meaning of the following group of words using only 1 inch squares:
    group 1: tumble, pressure, fear, balance (black squares)
    group 2: flight, tranquility, death, celebration,
    assembly, cooperation, security, opposition

    2) Use simple form to communicate using color: 
    group 3: squeeze, impact, decay, magnetic, transfusion
    full, assist, gigantic
