Shapes studies:Goal: Design and develop a series of black shapes. Each of these studies requires you to use your knowledge of line (quality and tension), curves (where appropriate), closure, placement, tension, and figure/ground.
1. Simple shape
Design a simple, non-biased flat shape that may use one or two points .This is a simple flat shape relying on tension in the curves.
2. Complex ambiguous shape | figure/ground
Design a complex shape using curves where the field can be read on two or more planes. The shape should be well designed using contrast, proportion, tension, and be visually centered on the format.
3. Folded shape
Design a folded shape using a 2 x 11 inch strip of black paper. This new folded shape must give the illusion of 3D space and have at least two folds one being a 90ยบ angle. It must also communicate that it is a strip of paper. Be careful not to confuse complexity with clarity.
