In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, Oliver Rios brings you The Magic Garden (TMG). TMG is an exhibit inspired by a community garden started in East Harlem in 1991 by Lydia Roman, Olivers mother. After more than 15 years of prominent existence in the neighborhood, the community garden, located at 118th St. and Park Ave., will be downsized due to redevelopment in the area. Through this exhibit, Oliver hopes to raise awareness on the importance of gardens in urban communities and also to motivate residents in supporting those gardens that are still in existence.
"The inspiration behind The Magic Garden, is the love it brings to our environment and the community. I am very
proud of my mothers positive influence in the neighborhood. Through my artwork I want to continue to raise awareness on important issues, that affect our society."
