Book cover explorations & final execution for a collection of poems by Steve Dalachinsky. Met with the poet to discuss his intent with the collection. After reading through the poetry, I executed a few versions that I thought fit the tone. The collection of poems were mostly written by him sitting in jazz clubs experiencing the music and mood, so I wanted to use jazz instruments somehow on the covers. In the end, an image that the poet wanted to use was integrated into the cover art. Illustration was eliminated, and it became a clean, type-driven cover.
