- The American Bison
This poster explores the ideas of confinement, commodity and surrealism. Paynes Prairie plans to reduce their bison herd and push their remaining bison into a confined portion of the park to increase visitor sighting and control visitor safety. By taking a pop art approach (removing material from its context and isolating an object), the bison are subjected to the public eye and constrained in new boundary lines. Andy Warhol’s repeated surrealist concept illustrates the bison as the park’s commodity. The nine pink squares represent the number and gender of the herd that will be remaining when the reduction is complete.
