Spring of my junior year at UW-Stout I was given the opportunity to take an independent study on Zines and the Art of Self Publication along with four of my closest friends/classmates/super talented designers - Heather Christianson, Maddi Wichert, Drew Schmidt and Toni Hall. Our first project together was to explore the art of a zine through topics we randomly assigned to each other (and we weren't allowed to discuss who was assigned what for the duration of the creation period). After creation, we shared and assembled them into a small manila envelope screenprinted with the name of our small designer collective, 399. We each created a different 399 for the envelope.
My 399 is the one that is written out in the cursive.
My random topic was TEXTILES. I hand lettered and illustrated a small zine exploring different types of textiles. It was my first time doing everything by hand before going digital (which I used to color and assemble the pages), and I'm quite pleased with the results.
