Success is a Job in New York
Andy Warhol MOMA exhibition poster, ticket and catalog
The creative brief asked students to design a system based on a conceptual artist and their “ism” to create an exhibition poster, ticket, catalog cover and a completed catalog. Though the extent of my research focused on Warhol in his Pop Art years, I quickly discovered that I favored his career as a fashion illustrator during the 1950s. While exploring the relationships between society, culture and the reactions of Warhol, I found that the blotted line technique anticipated Warhol’s later discoveries of other reproductive techniques, including stencils, rubber stamps, and most importantly silk screens. My intentions were to showcase his drawings from the 1950’s, while combining the processes used over the decades, through my own experiments with ink and collaging.
