These two spoons were created in the winter of 2007 as part of a metal working class I was taking.
The copper spoon was my first attempt at making a hand forged spoon with a "perfect" weight. After several iterations, I was able to create a form with an equally weighted front and back.
My final work for the class was the below silver spoon, which was created through forging the bowl, and casting the handle. I have always been enamored by cutlery and how it is such an important tool that we use every day but hardly notice. This concept aimed to demonstrate the connection we have with the utensils we use to eat, the bone acting as an extension of your hand.
