Worked as a team to create an identity for the Shinola brand that encompasses the mood, feel, and pride they exude through their products. Shinola has created a lifestyle brand that appeals to a citycentric demographic and helps bring style to every corner of their busy lifestyle. We set out to create an identity for Shinola that helps instill these ideals and compliment the hand-crafted, well-made products they work so hard to create.
TYPOGRAPHY - Pair early industrial imagery with contemporary typographic influences; this includes embossing, depression, as well as digital mediums.
COLOR - Draw inspiration from objects that would be found in an industrial environment as well as a variety of bold imagery.
INSPIRATION - Drew forms from machinery I.D. plates, gauges, and ads dating to the early 20th century. Also considered architecture from this era as well as the labor movement of the time. We were also inspired by the patterns found in our research both tangible and conceptual, and looked to current modern brands for trends and styling cues.
