36x24-inch typographic poster of Detroit. This is a map of Downtown Detroit composed entirely of type, it reads as a map and can be used as a directional map. The distance and scale are indicated- I chose a typographic numeric form that gave a scale of distance of one thousand feet.
To achieve a sense of hierarchy, names of each road have been repeated along its length to build up the street geometry and the size (how many lanes) of the street depended on how big or small the fonts were and what color they would be. Larger features such as Brush Park and the Detroit Medical Center had their names packed multiple times into their borders with a tint of color added to make a textured weight.
