North York General Hospital in Toronto approached HDR, Inc. for a new wayfinding system. The signs take inspiration from the architecture and address the challenges of narrow hallways and limited sign space. Shown below are an overview of the signs selected as well as selections from another option.
Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world and there are many languages spoken at the hospital. To better assist patients and visitors, a set of over fifty icons were compiled for every department, including 15 custom icons.
Finally, a ceiling-mounted navigational ribbon was designed to lead visitors to major destinations due to the complexities of the ground and first floors. (not shown)
Used with permision from HDR, Inc. Role in project ended after schematic design.
