Description
I was given the opportunity in my typography class to create an original typeface. I was inspired by the Cooper River Bridge and the waterway to create a typeface that could be used in areas associated with the Charleston City Marina. From this came the typeface, Marina.

  • OPPORTUNITY
    Design an original typeface.

    SOLUTION
My love of the coast and beautiful serifs were my inspiration for my typeface. After traveling to Charleston, SC a few weeks prior to being assigned this project, I was inspired by the Cooper River Bridge. Since I am so attracted to the bridge and its surroundings, I decided I would make a typeface that could be used in areas associated with the bridge, particularly in the Charleston City Marina. I also took inspiration from the existing typeface, Didot. I admired the beautiful shift in weight throughout the letterforms, so I applied that to my own letterforms.
