  • Erik Satie’s Gnosienne 5 interacts with a map of Paris. This song guides the subject through a series of emotions during a present-day bus ride at night. Erik Satie’s context (he was in Paris at the time he composed this piece) serves as a vehicle to deliver the baseline for this experience. The structure of the song is held in the stylized Paris block formation pattern that serves as the basic consistent element in the book. This notation is a mathematical equation that elicits a chemical reaction within the passenger. While the math of Gnossienne 5 guides the passenger, it holds no responsibility for the interpretation or mood that said passenger experiences at that particular time and place. Outside noise intrudes on the stream of consciousness and keeps the subject connected with reality.
