The challenge here was to use type and image to interpret the meaning of a poem excerpt selected from a list of poems commissioned by the Indiana Poetry Review to be letterpress printed. I selected an excerpt from Erika Meitner’s poem You Are Invisible. I limited my use of imagery to just type since the poet’s words are most important aspect of this piece. A gradient color was used to convey a sense of fading away. The ornaments and type were used in nontraditional ways to create imagery such as a bed and throw pillows. The ornaments form buildings in a “city of resin”. The distressed look of the wood type contributes to overall nostalgic experience of the poem.
