Description
The imagined evolution of creatures from pop culture.
  • Imaginary Evolutions Series

The imagined anatomical progression of creatures from popular culture, as depicted in the style of turn-of-the-century medical and biology instructional charts.

I created this project as part of an open-ended academic assignment. My original idea was to take the beloved, anthropomorphized characters of popular culture and root them in material reality by creating biological context in the form of evolutionary progression.

Through my research informing the physicality of the intermediate forms, I discovered this incredible wealth of information. What was once a minimalist intention, then morphed to include additional information that strengthened the connection between the real and the imagined. The anatomical labels and taxonomical classifications are biologically accurate – up until the genus & species level where, for example, Limax Hutt is artificially grafted onto the family tree.
