Vanderbilt Peabody College approached us to redesign Ideas in Action, a biannual 16-page publication mailed to over 30,000 alumni across the nation. My role originally was to co-design the publication, but I ultimately became the project's art director and manager. We incorporated editorial illustrations to pacify the text-heavy articles, and decreased cost by making the piece a self-mailer. One interesting requirement
was to "stay within Vanderbilt's well-known brand." To achieve this goal, we incorporated Vanderbilt's color scheme (black & gold) throughout the magazine, using a spot varnish on a silk Utopia paper to intensify the black.
