- I was recently asked to be one of 12 designers for a project in which we interpret the classic love icon, the heart and design a poster based off that and the phrase "I love design"."When asked to do this project, I immediately knew what I wanted to do—an illustration using hand-rendered type. I am obsessed with type, so it was a given. I didn't plan out what I wanted it to look like, nor did I have an idea of what I wanted the outcome to be. I started drawing and allowed the individual parts of the illustration to come together as one beautiful, organic design love affair."Design has always been a part of my life. In my journey into graphic design, I learned that my dad and his dad were avid designers in their own ways. My grandfather created machines, such as a Batmobile for my dad and uncle, in his downtime. My dad used to do layouts and screen printing. I started at a young age, creating my first mural with a permanent marker in the front hall of our house, but it wasn't until college that I realized I could do this for a living and love what I do each and every day. Without design I don't know what my life would be like. I certainly wouldn't be where I am now. And for that, I'm thankful for my love of design."Client: AIGA JacksonvilleCurator: Jim Ward
