A sculptural summer celebration!
Handbuilt is a packaged activity that looks to inspire families to explore, learn, and play during the Nelson Atkins Museum's annual summer celebration.
Art can be a fairly abstract concept for young children to understand. Our proposal focuses on finding connections between select sculptures and familiar objects to help make art a bit more relatable to families. This system includes a map listing scheduled events, matching cards that kids will collect at each sculpture, and a souvenir box that acts as a container for the cards to continue the learning and preserve the Nelson logo beyond the event.
Directional callouts highlight key activities of the day, prompts discovery, and also assist in way-finding.
Our cards aren't the only things our boxes can hold. We believe in fostering the creativity and curiosity of each child. Kids can use their box to house their own found materials making each box as unique as every child.
Match the sculpture with it's corresponding material. Kids can play alone or with a friend!
