For this project my task was to conceptualize a completely new brand in the music industry. After researching my assigned industry I decided to create a company that would cater to the niche market of vinyl enthusiasts.
The Goldmark brand was developed with the intention of providing the best cleaning tools to properly maintain record collections, in one convenient kit. In addition to selling high quality vinyl care products, Goldmark would provide an online community to connect music lovers, from the die-hard vinyl enthusiasts to the novice collectors. This online community would serve as an outlet for many labels, artists and vinyl collectors to discuss new releases, old favorites, and releases they would love to see in the future.
The company’s namesake is Peter Carl Goldmark (December 2, 1906 – December 7, 1977), who worked as an inventor and engineer at Columbia records. In 1948, Goldmark invented the LP, or long-playing disc. His innovations made it possible to listen to entire symphonic movements and other long pieces without interruption, bringing the pleasure of long-playing recorded music to millions. It was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry, and apart from relatively minor refinements, has remained the standard format for vinyl “albums”.
