Description
Using only one typeface, visually describe each of the four words chosen.
  • Finalized Digital Manipulation of Text
    Giving Typeface a Meaning
  • We were to visually add meaning to each word by illustrating the meaning either by digital or analog methods.  Below are my final representations of the four chosen words.  My words were alternative, inventing, love, and memory.  For this project we were to limit ourselves to one Typeface; I chose Trade Gothic.
  • I was going for complex yet simple.  I kept all letters the same size, but played around with adding condensed, bold, oblique, and combinations of a few of those.
  • I thought that inventing always involved a lot of trial and error.  I used this idea by rearranging the letters to spell the word inventing.
  • I wanted to keep the letters close together, because love is something that can be felt and is a very specific emotion.  I did not want to be cliche and form a heart, so my thought was to try to have the letters connect in some way, as well as kind of jumble together because love is never straight forward; it's always sneaking in taking over.
  • I thought that memories are similar to the eye test that you take at the doctor's office.  Dependent on how you respond to each question you will have a different outcome.  At the doctors if you if you lie about how you see a line of text, you could be given the wrong prescription.  If you lie to yourself or something else about a memory, you could be harming yourself for the future.  Both are also repetitive events that you can try to forget, but if you do, you may effect your future.
