Decadence

I used myself as a model for this painting, but it is not a self portrait. The idea sprang forth from an image that came to me in a dream which included a horrific image of a cockroach-ridden Marie Antoinette. This caused me to reflect on the etymology of the word "decadence" which has the same word root as "decay", and the Northern Renaissance idea that all things luxurious and beautiful are in some way already marked by death.
