  • Dear Family
    Letters Home from Fallen Soldiers
  • Inspired by the famous letter from Sullivan Ballou to his wife during the Civil War, this book contains a collection of letters from soldiers to their families written very shortly before they were killed in battle. To convey the effect that war has on the family members of a soldier, the reader takes the place of a family member by being able to open up each envelope and take out the letters to read. Letters range from the Civil War up to the Iraq War and take the form of letters from their time period.
  • Handwritten letters have been traced over, scanned to the computer, and printed on printmaking paper. A typed transcript is included.
  • Letters written during the time when soldiers could use typewriters were typed using an actual typewriter on onion skin paper.
  • Letters written more recently have been set in email form.
