This is one assignment I finished for a textile design course in The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, which
is Pratt Institute 2012 Summer Abroad Program in Copenhagen, Denmark. After one week study tour in Sweden and Finland, we were asked to find some inspiration objects and design textile from that.
I found Dalahäst (Dala Horse or Dalecarlian Horse) is very popular in lots of museums and retail stores. The adorable Dala Horse usually appears as a traditional carved and painted wooden statutette. I like the horse because it looks peaceful and tranquil, which is different with the running and livingly horse in our Chinese culture. I used it as my inspiration and created certain series of patterns and textiles as what shows below.
