This 1’16” x 3’5” acrylic painting is the result of multiple paint studies exploring the combination of natural, desaturated colors and synthetic, highly saturated colors. My favorite Korean snack, Rainbow Rice Cake, usually made with 3 to 5 layers of brown, green, yellow, pink, and/or white, inspires this work’s color palette. When this rice cake is made with natural food coloring, the color of the rice cake tends to be more muted and desaturated; whereas, with regular food coloring, the rice cake achieves vibrant, high-saturated colors. It was through this reflection on the rice cake variations that I was able to gain the knowledge about colors I applied to this work. Moreover, I was able to celebrate my love for rice cake!
It was displayed at the Core II Exhibition at the Des Lee Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri.
