Single song interpreted on multiple formats. For the trifold cover/insert, one side used structured and legible type; the other aimed at being more expressive and engaging. The CD itself needed to be able to function independently and also as part of the case packaging. A short Flash animation provides a moving interpretation of the cover design.
Death Cab for Cutie's "You Are A Tourist" is one of my favorite songs, combining a driving rhythmic undercurrent with simple, polished instrumental and vocal lines that play off each other and steadily build to the end. The design is intended to capture the song's musical character while reflecting its lyrical themes about being self-awareness and new stages in life.
The yellow lines on the right are the lyrics of the song in very small type.
