Using the text of Don Marquis (1878-1937), an American satirist best known for his characters Archy and Mehitibel, this project required 300 lines of original text from the author in coherence with another text of any form. The additional found text should be edited in order to enhance the flavor of Marquis’ writing and be a single credited source.
The supplemental text chosen was from Baudelaire’s, Modernism, discussing with Marquis the themes of beauty and the changing concept of modernity. The book’s pages are made from transparent paper creating the illusion of a continuing conversation between the pages. The text from each author are laid next to each other, purposefully creating lines that can be read as one or separately.
