Description
Good Dog/Bad Dog is an app interface I designed for a class project that shows dog training videos to dog owners. The videos are split into two sections: tricks for good dogs and obedience for bad dogs.

  • Good Dog/Bad Dog is an app interface I designed for a class project that shows dog training videos to dog owners. The videos are split into two sections: tricks for good dogs and obedience for bad dogs. The icon below uses color and the familiar angel/devil metaphor to divide the two sections.
  • Shown above on an iPhone in the context of other app icons, the Good Dog/Bad Dog app is easy to spot and has a clean, shiny appearance.
  • Launch images are loading screens that run when apps are opened. Generally the images should be simple and match the background of the home screen. This launch image introduces the angel/devil dog and continues the split theme which is also used on the home screen.
  • The home screen above uses the same split seen in the icon and launch image. Good Dog Tricks such as sit, roll over and speak are listed on the dog bones on the left, and Bad Dog Obedience such as quiet, time-out and stay are listed on the right. The icons at the bottom are used on every screen of this app to simplify navigation.
  • When bones on the home screen are tapped, screens similar to the two above will appear, depending on which bone is tapped. The examples below are for Sit (for Good Dog Tricks) and Quiet (for Bad Dog Obedience). Once a video is played it will take over the entire screen. Transcripts of the videos are available for those with disabilities or limited Wi-Fi connectivity. In the difficulty level section, the more paws, the greater the challenge. Once the dog learns the trick/obedience, the user can tap the checkbox.
  • The Checklist screen above introduces the user to a fun challenge. Once the user's dog learns every item, the user is prompted to fill out a form to receive a coupon to Petsmart (or the current advertiser). This is a simple way to gain contact and demographic information from customers.
  • The Sounds screen is a fun extra feature that assists with dog training. The first sound that can be played directly from the app is a dog whistle, and the second sound is one that a training clicker makes. These tools are often referenced in the videos and can be very helpful to dog owners. This screen also includes an advertisement.
