A study from my time in Florence, Italy. This exploration was inspired by an Italian book of anatomy from 1875, which I found at an antique market in Lucca, that is devoid of images and relies completely on language and descriptions of the body. In this exploration, I also modeled some of the imagery after ex-votos that I discovered. Ex-votos can be votive offerings that can be used in focusing attention to a specific ailment of the body or act as symbols of a miraculously healed body part. This work focuses on themes of human use and interaction as well as the idea of what can be sacred, paying specific attention to texture and materiality.
