ALPHA CHANNEL
Film Festival Poster
I was asked to design a poster for the 2011 Spring Alpha Channel Event at The Art Institute of New York City.
I decided to go with something not expected, since the previously designed posters were somewhat very similar in style and ideas.
I started by gathering 5 different concepts, from which I chose the strongest one and probably the most simple one in terms of raw concept. I simply asked myself "What is an Alpha Channel?" Thus, my poster started to slowly take shape.
By definition "An alpha channel is an invisible picture layer that defines the transparency of the visible (Red, Green, Blue) layers of the picture. That transparency is represented by white".
So I thought... red, green blue and the typography and perhaps an element in white which would symbolize the accomplishment of film students in this festival.
Phase two of this stage was to actually develop a total of 4 posters than when combined would form the face of 4 different students who would be making the "film framing gesture".
So, Milton Vivas, who is an amazing photographer, embarked in my ship and lead the way in such a great way with the photo shoot! So much fun, and the results, I'll leave them to you.
Here's everybody's photographs.

At first I thought the combination was going to be smooth and easy since I wasn't really looking into making them perfect, since I wanted to get that sort of movement/geometric feeling. But...So the work begins....
At first I thought the combination was going to be smooth and easy since I wasn't really looking into making them perfect, since I wanted to get that sort of movement/geometric feeling. But... even still, a lot of manipulation was necessary to make them look balanced together.
