Centennial Conservation Expo Branding and Collateral

  • The City of Knoxville asked AIGA Knoxville's board to design the branding, print and electronic collateral for the 100 year anniversary of the 1913 Conservation Expo. I was one of four designers creating a range of options for the Expo's and was pleasantly surprised that the 30+ member committee of conservation stakeholders in the region choose my design. I worked with the Communications Manager in the Mayor's Office to develop a range of collateral, including pins, rack cards, a program, posters and signage.

Inspired by the imagery of the original 1913 Conservation Expo, this logo draws upon the iconic element of the one remaining structure from the period, the bandstand at Chilhowee Park. The logo and collateral is designed to be fun, lively and energetic, capturing the feeling of a crisp autumn day at the Expo. The traditional format of the seal is enlivened by bright, contemporary colors, and is intended to reference the history of the Expo while looking forward. The original Conservation Expo, held in 1913, was a 2-month long event, and attracted over 1 million visitors.
