The man in this photo is Jeff Johnson, Nike’s first employee ever. He established the company first retail store back in 1967 under the name Blue Ribbon Sports (Nike’s original name) at 3107 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica, CA. The place was more like a running club than a store; where athletes gathered to talk about training, racing and ultimately footwear.
Last week Nike reopened Blue Ribbon Sports as a community space for local runners to gather and talk about the sport, just as they did in the late 60’s with Johson.
So, when Nike contacted us to be part of this reopening by creating the graphics that would accompany Johnson’s original photos from the 60’s we felt more than honored. We’re so excited to be part of this full circle kind of a moment for such a legendary brand
