A general agency of the United Methodist Church (UMC) “The General Board of Church and Society” (GBCS) is one of four international general program boards. They connect the United Methodist Church with different components of society from local to global levels. Meeting the needs and expectations of the contemporary society, its actions are based on a social creed and social principles that allow it to intervene in the economic, social, environmental and cultural fields. Local and global levels of society are constantly evolving and the United Methodist Church strives to maintain relevancy when addressing these challenges. Now and in the future, GBCS suggests to adapt the social principles from a theological and ethical perspective.
The beginning phase of UMC‘s visual re-branding effort encompassed a logo design, 16 page brochure and environmental graphics for an event in Portland, OR in May 2016. Additionally, a style guide booklet and other materials will be created to maintain standards across all collateral including the digital domain. These design efforts will lay the foundation for the larger education, advocation and engagement priorities of the United Methodist Church.
Stay tuned, as I will be updating this ongoing process throughout 2016.
