  • 340 Magazine / Promotional Posters
  • This collection belongs to the 2011 issue of 340 Magazine, an annual collection of selected works by the students of the Tidewater Community Colleges Visual Arts Center (VAC).  The target audience is the student body of the VAC.

Two major concepts came out for the campaign:  first, “340 is you,” meaning that the students were the 340 magazine; and second, the “speech bubble” concept, which was intended to open a channel to communicate with the students. The two posters produced were the 11x17  “call for entries” poster; and the  “speech bubble” design, a 36x40 large size poster (which was posted in the corridors for students to fill in their thoughts as they desired).

Each piece is mostly black and white, with red acting as a spot color. The idea was to use the colors of the VAC logo. The layouts are simple and clean, but at the same time reflect dynamism because of the placement of some design elements.

After finishing the promotional posters, the concepts for the magazine were tailored.  Three groups were assigned to work on the concept development.  One design concept was chosen and produced.  The selected design successfully maintains consistency with the posters (same typefaces, colors, elements, etc.), as well as projects the desired identity.
