I was super stoked to get the opportunity to design the famous Miss Reef 2016 Calendar and Point of Sale Retail Box. This project was a collaborative effort with the Reef Creative Director Tait Hawes and Photographer Kate Bellm. My responsibilites for this project include the concepting phase of the look and feel and working out the orientation of how the calendar will layout. From there it was strait into the art direction, graphic design, and layout of the 12” x 17.75” wire bound calendar and the design and concept of the point of sale box. I also managed all print production and did several press checks while working very close with the print vendor for quality control.
The look and feel was inspired by a 1980’s magazine publication and we wanted the feel of the calendar to be like one that you may find hanging in an old school mechanics garage from back in the day.
More about the photographer and the location:
For this year’s Miss Reef calendar, the young, nomadic photographer Kate Bellm was unleashed into the jungles of Costa Allegre for her wanderlust interpretation of Just Passing Through. Bellm was born in the UK and got established in Berlin. She’s now working in Majorca, and shooting every corner of the world from the gritty to the glamorous. She took an edgy perspective but retained the mystery of Miss Reef. The final result was twelve months worth of youth culture-driven pop art of Miss Reef in cerulean lagoons and lush tropical woodlands of the Pacific Mexican coast, all with Miss Reef falling into Bellm’s brand of mischief and adventure.
