This card was chosen by the chancellor of East Carolina University to be the school’s
official holiday card for 2007. It was distributed to faculty and staff throughout the holiday season, and mailed around the country to ECU’s affiliates and alumni.
The chancellor wanted a card that celebrated the winter season without drawing upon
Christmas or any major holiday. With this in mind, I designed a series of snowflakes using iconography to represent the largest departments in the university. For example, the sciences
are represented by a snowflake composed of microscopes rotating around themselves, and the athletics department with a skull and crossbones snowflake to represent the ECU Pirates.
The inside of the card features a snowflake based on a cupola that is one of the most iconic structures on the ECU campus. It signifies the unity and dedication among students regardless
of their discipline.
