Working Class Studio
The Working Class Studio is a product development venture of the Savannah College of Art and Design that cultivates and promotes the work of our many talented SCAD student, alumni and faculty artists. As an innovative concept for an educational institution, the Working Class Studio marries function with fine art in order to deliver a well–curated, and ever–expanding mix of original stationery as well as home décor lines sold in retail stores across the United States and internationally.
The journal was designed for Working Class Studio, a division of SCAD. This design was influenced by the timeless “do it yourself” movement that has been inspiring households everywhere. Looking back onto something from my early childhood I decided to bring the art of painting into the 2014 collection. Whether it is the fine arts; crafts with your family; or the furniture and walls inside your home—painting is a great way to accomplish a D.I.Y. moment with family, friends, or just yourself!
In order to stay cohesive to Working Class Studio’s essence, it was important that the design of the Paint Journal remain colorful, fun, and whimsical. Sticking to a simple color palette filled with happy hues that were more feminine, the Paint Journal was designed for majority of our target audience made of women. Its curvy lines are playfully wavy to contrast the harder paint strokes in the adjacent sketchbook pairing. Both take an innovative and practical approach to depict the enjoyable art of painting.
