Bayside Delicatessen

  • On December 24th 2012, a propane truck crashed into Bayside Delicatessen. Thankfully no one was hurt, but they were closed for repairs for a few months. Now they are open again and launched a grand reopening campaign. I designed a logo, menu, website, and direct mail postcard for the deli.
Bayside Delicatessen is in Long Island, New York and caters mostly to local workers and families. The deli’s visual identity reflects the nostalgic decor of the diner and the history of the town. The deli is decorated with classic signs and photos from years ago, and the owners often talk to customers about growing up in the Long Island area.
Their new slogan: Good eats. Friendly Folks. Squeaky Clean. highlights the bragging points about the deli: Great food at a great price, friendly owners and workers striking up conversations, and the cleanliness of the establishment.
  • I also designed and developed a website for the deli. I used WordPress so that the clients would easily be able to make changes to the content in the future. I wrote a custom theme specifically for the deli website. Check it out:
  • The reopening campaign presents Bayside Delicatessen’s “Worst Christmas Present Ever” in a lighthearted, funny way. The owners jokingly referred to the disaster as their “Worst Christmas Present Ever.” I took that idea and ran with it. I illustrated the postcard with a comical embodiment of their tagline. The direct mail postcard explains to the public what happened to the deli, why it was closed, and invites customers to come back with a coupon now that it’s open again.
