Hello!
Hey there, I’m Daniella.
I’m a Graphic Designer/Illustrator living in Madison, Wisconsin.
I studied Fine Art Illustration and Women’s Studies at the University of Connecticut for two years, until I decided to move to Wisconsin. Shortly after moving to Madison a friend asked me to make a poster for his company and I started to fall in love with type and design. After a few years of making all my stuff in Photoshop (eeek!) I decided to get serious and go back to school. I went to Madison College and got myself a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration and also picked up the Web Certificate while I was at it. Best. Decision. Ever.
What else do you do?
I am a part-time graphic designer at Murfie.com as well as at Wisconsin Public Television. I’m a volunteer at Project Lodge! Its a freakin’ sweet art/community/music space. I also help run WiDIY.org. I’m a novice ukulele player and junkie for going to see live music. You’ll often find me at a show during the weekend (and sometimes during the week). I love taking photos of my favorite bands. See my flickr to see those photos. I’m also a gardener and spend too much time thinking about Doctor Who.
Why do you make art?
My father was the one who shoved a pencil and paper into my hands when I was a kid and helped me get better. He’d spend an afternoon helping me paint on tshirts or get proportions right on faces. By the age of six I knew all I wanted to do with my life is make things.
Uhm, What’s a “khomuz”? And why is that your url?
The first time I heard the word was in a song from one of my favorites bands (Old Time Relijun) called “Khomuz“. It features the amazing jaw harp. “Khomuz” in Tuvan means Jaw Harp. Why did I pick it for my web url and email address? Because its easier to spell than Daniella Echeverria. And because I like that song a whole lot.
