How I got into Deisgn . . .
I've always been a doodler, my teachers would confiscate my pens in school. I wouldn't pay attention in class, instead I was busy covering my folders and notebooks in ink. I didn't think about Graphic Design, until I was on the way to Freshman orientation and looking through the school's catalog, I decided to switch my major to Graphic Design after a one minute debate in my head and haven't thought twice about it. At school I also discovered a interest in Photography.
Design is . . .
To me design is not about pretty pictures or fancy colors, it is about the message behind the pretty pictures and fancy colors. Like a tree without a strong root system, the tree will die, design without a strong concept will die. The design is only a vessel for which the message is delivered.
I love the challenge design holds. I love taking a complex idea, simplifying it to its core and then trying to show that idea in a visually unique way. I love that design can incorporate any aspect of the arts. As designers we have a say in what the world looks like, and I find that fascinating.
