I work with managers, SMEs, instructional designers--and end users--to change technical information into relevant and accessible chunks of content for print, video, or online delivery. In one way or another my best work educates. It helps some people to do their jobs better or more safely while it helps others to find and select the best products and services for their business needs.

At the foundational level, I am an information architect – I play tag. I look for the patterns in the content and use of unstructured information. Then I use data constructs (fields, tables, relationships, etc.) to encode these patterns into manageable chunks of digitized content, now tagged by type and function.

On the next level, I am a digital content technician – a wordsmith and pixel jockey. From camera to keyboard, I capture, create, edit, frame, and sequence the words and images that narrate the illustrations and illustrate the narrative.

At yet another level, my favorite, I am a "cognitian" – involved in awareness, perception, reasoning, and learning. I apply my knowledge of human factors and learning theories to the design of engaging media experiences that maximize user comprehension, retention, and ultimately appropriate application and action.

And finally, I am an information ecologist. I maintain the constellation of information systems that hold, deliver, track, and report on the use and effectiveness of the content in my corner of the e-universe. Read Less
