I’d like to say that I was born a designer, a gifted adolescent that was immediately recognized by the influential people in my life and nurtured into some kind of a child prodigy. I’d like to say that I left the nest and went to college with graphic design as my sole intention knowing that in four years I would finally fulfill my destiny to create. Hell, I’d even like to say that I planned to get hired right after college at one of the most influential page layout software companies in the world and become the lead senior graphic designer after just two years.

But I’d be lying…

My adolescent years were very typical (almost boringly so). I participated in the high school band (Nerd Alert!), played a wide variety of varsity sports, and got into trouble with my friends just like everyone else. Math was always my better subject, followed closely by art but I never really thought much of it. Mrs. Newlove might say differently because my math homework looked like something from Picasso’s sketches but I passed and that’s all that matters now. Moving was like my family’s hobby and we never really stayed in the same place for very long.

College came and I packed up and flew the coop to Fargo, North Dakota (yes like the Cohen Brother’s film… Fargo) to become an architect. Let’s just say, it didn’t go so well. But it was in my Architectural Art 101 class that I noticed I had some skill with a pen and an unknown understanding of special relation. Not only did I notice but a couple of my professors caught a glimpse of what I was doing and directed me into Graphic Design and Marketing. I immediately fell into the cult world of graphic design and that was it, I was hooked.

I have never been satisfied with conforming to the rules and standards of things, which pushed me to question the limits and exercise my creativity. I soon found my focus in branding and packaging. The challenges and restrictions forced me find creative ways to solve the nearly impossible, leading me to love my newfound career path even more.

Four years flew by and my parents breathed a sigh of relief the day I graduated. Three months later, I said good-bye to the frigid cold of Fargo and hello to the eternally beautiful days of Denver. As with everything I do, I did some research, over analyzed the possibilities, planned to n’th degree and wound up having a job waiting for me when I arrived (the economy was better… there were jobs everywhere) but it was a print production job and I wasn’t very happy.

Things worked out in the end. I only had that painfully boring job for three months and then I landed my job at Quark Inc. I could finally be creative, push the envelope, do work that would be seen around the world in twenty two languages, brand products that were influential to my career and inherently creative, create booths for huge shows like IFRA and MacWorld, aid in the development and advancement of the design community, and work in an environment that oozed with creativity.

I have learned to take all that I have absorbed through out my life and career and insert it into my work that I do on a daily basis. This is the promise I make to all my clients; to let my passion for design guide me in my work, to immerse myself in every project wholly with the promise of one hundred percent satisfaction, and to always deliver on time work that exceeds all expectations.
